NFT Storage & Wallets

Storing NFTs securely is just as important as buying them. NFTs live on the blockchain, but they’re accessed and managed through wallets. Let’s break it down.

🧩 Where Are NFTs Stored?

The ownership of an NFT is stored on a blockchain (like Ethereum or Solana), but the actual content (image, video, etc.) might be hosted elsewhere — often on IPFS (InterPlanetary File System) or centralized servers.

🔐 Types of Wallets for NFTs

1. Hot Wallets (Software Wallets)

- Examples: MetaMask (Ethereum), Phantom (Solana), Xverse (Bitcoin NFTs)
- Easy to access via browser/mobile
- Best for frequent NFT users
- But vulnerable to hacks if device is compromised

2. Cold Wallets (Hardware Wallets)

- Examples: Ledger, Trezor
- Store your NFT keys offline
- Highly secure — ideal for long-term holders or expensive NFTs
- Less convenient for day-to-day use

3. Custodial Wallets

- Managed by platforms like Binance, Coinbase
- Easy for beginners, but you don’t hold the keys (“Not your keys, not your NFTs”)
- Risk if the platform is hacked or freezes your account

📦 What About the Image File?

Always check where your NFT's content is stored. If it’s on a centralized server and the link dies, you might lose access to the artwork. IPFS or Arweave-based storage is much safer.

💡 Tip:

For high-value NFTs, use a cold wallet and ensure the metadata is on decentralized storage like IPFS.
